Back in the old days (before children) I kept a DO IT list on the frig. I followed it. Each task was checked off or marked out as complete at time scheduled. Everything had its place and deadline. Symmetry and precision were how I factored in chores, decor, shopping, organizing.
Kids change that, be it one or many. So does the spouse.
In this period of my life the list has changed. In fact it had disappeared. It was on the frig for a while some years ago but when the Kid started walking and reaching for things, regardless of height, I lost the list. Instead, the frig became papered in finger painted art, crayon scribbles, and glued people papers. Now that he is 5, he wants more sophisticated items on this black shiny kitchen appliance.
My DO IT list is now kept in a journal under my bed hidden because journals are a place to further a child’s drawing skills. Unfortunately for me, out of sight/out of mind hinders my organization. I found it the other day and turned toward the page where my “list” is kept and it is past due. Nothing has been checked off. I have failed at getting any of those task done in a timely manner.
One step to getting organized is to get rid of all the junk in the house such as those unused items that need to be sent out be it trash or thrift mart or sold on your local By Sell Trade ads. Last month we started that process. Cleaning out drawers, closets, boxes is quite freeing really for I found another DO IT list!
I am not going to write down here what a million other blogs say about being organized. What I will say is this: Organization starts with prayer. It begins not with cleaning out the house but cleaning out your heart and mind first through prayer and Bible study.
Phillippians 4:6 (NKJV) says 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Pray before all that you do, including your DO IT list. Pray for guidance to complete your tasks no matter how simple they are.
